IND vs SA: Ishant Sharma, former veteran said on ignoring him, he should be respected

New Delhi. It is the result of the hard work of the last several years that fast bowler Ishant Sharma has established himself as one of the best bowlers in world cricket. He is an important part of Team India’s impressive pace attack in Test cricket. He has forged a formidable partnership with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, which helped the team excel in the longest format of the game in overseas conditions. Although Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami still remain key members of the Indian team, Ishant has started to edge in recent times after the emergence of Mohammad Siraj.

Even in the ongoing series against South Africa (India vs South Africa), Ishant Sharma has not appeared in the playing XI of any of the three Test matches. Ishant did not get a chance in the playing XI even after being ruled out of the Cape Town Test due to the injury of Mohammad Siraj in the second Test. Umesh Yadav was selected as a replacement for Siraj in place of Ishant.

With Ishant’s prominence clearly declining in the team, former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock has urged the Indian team management to respect him and have an honest conversation with him. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Pollock said, “I think communication should be good. Whatever Ishant has done for the Indian team, he should be respected.

He added, “You need to be honest with them and you need to tell them the exact reason. If the reason was that we think ‘you would have been better suited if you weren’t a left-hander,’ they just have to admit it,” Pollock sympathized with Ishant and claimed that he played so much cricket for India. It will not be easy for them to sit on the bench after playing especially in such favorable conditions for the fast bowlers.

The former captain said, “It is not easy when you have played so much cricket and have given really good service. Things are good in South Africa and he will be restless for an opportunity, especially after those two pitches. He must be thinking that God if I could do just one game here, I am sure I can make an impact.”
