Junior Hockey World Cup: India beat Canada 13-1 with Sanjay and Hundal’s hat-tricks

Bhubaneswar. Indian team Junior Hockey World Cup (Junior Hockey World Cup-2021) came back in a strong fashion and defeated Canada by a huge margin of 13-1 in their second match. Against Canada for Indian Junior Team (India vs Canada) Vice-captain Sanjay and Arijit Singh Hundal scored 3-3 goals in the match. For defending champions India, it was a ‘do or die’ type of match in the tournament but their players performed exceptionally well.

India’s first day France lost 5-4 was given. Playing for the second consecutive day, the Indian team adopted an aggressive attitude from the beginning and did not give Canada any chance to return to the match. In the match played at Kalinga Stadium without spectators, Sanjay once again scored a hat-trick (17th, 32nd, 59th minute) for India.

Apart from Sanjay, Arijit Singh Hundal also scored 3 goals (40th, 50th, 51st minute). Uttam Singh (6th and 47th minute) and Shardanand Tiwary (35th and 53rd) scored 2 goals each while Captain Vivek Sagar Prasad (8th, Maninder Singh 27th) and Abhishek Lakra (55th) scored. Canada’s only goal in the 30th minute was Tardiff Christopher from a penalty corner.

Earlier in other matches, Argentina beat Egypt 14-0, Netherlands beat Korea 12-5, Spain beat America 17-0 and France 7-1 beat Poland. India now has to play Poland on Saturday. France is at the top of Pool B after 2 wins while India is at the second position.

India maintained control of the ball from the beginning and continued to attack Canada’s goal. It soon bore fruit when Uttam scored the first goal in the sixth minute. In the eighth minute, captain Vivek doubled India’s lead by scoring another goal. Canada got 2 penalty corners in the 11th minute but went in vain. In the second quarter, Sanjay scored on a penalty stroke. Maninder also registered a goal in the second minute of halftime and India’s lead was 4-0. After this the Indian team did not look back and went on scoring goals in every quarter. The last goal was scored by Abhishek Lakra in the 55th minute on India’s eighth penalty corner.
